Social Value Aotearoa Director Jo Nicholson recently presented at the SuperGrans SuperSkills National Conference, bringing a theory of change lens to a room of 12 agencies from across Aotearoa, all working to strengthen life skills and connection in their communities.

Each of the 12 SuperGrans agencies responds to the needs of their community in its own way but all share a common commitment. Reaching out with kindness and empathy to those who ask for help, growing knowledge and life skills and easing unnecessary stress.

Jo's workshop, The Difference We Make, introduced attendees to the fundamentals of theory of change. Shifting the conversation from what agencies do, to the change they actually create.

"It was a great opportunity to share how to move from talking about outputs and activities, to talking about the real change we make. Theory of change 101," says Jo.

A highlight of the day was seeing Social Value Aotearoa graduate Brooke,  formerly of Te Puna Hauora, now with Tairāwhiti SuperGrans. Who put the theory into practice. Brooke's confident grasp of the concepts, and her ability to walk the talk reflected the impact SVA's training continues to have across the sector.

It's a reminder that when organisations understand and can clearly articulate the change they make, everyone from funders, communities and the people they serve benefits.
